Can the Facebook Ads Connector Sync Instagram Ads Data?
Yes, the Facebook Ads connector syncs Instagram Ads data alongside Facebook Ads data. No additional setup is required. Fivetran connects to Meta Ads Manager and queries both platforms using the Meta Marketing API.
How to access Instagram data
By default, Instagram Ads data is included with Facebook Ads data. To isolate Instagram performance, use the publisher_platform column. This column indicates where an ad was delivered, such as facebook or instagram. You can access this column in a prebuilt report or by creating a custom report with the publisher_platform breakdown.
Use the DELIVERY_PLATFORM prebuilt report
The DELIVERY_PLATFORM prebuilt report includes the publisher_platform breakdown. To include this report in your connection schema:
- In Fivetran, go to your Facebook Ads connection page.
- Select the Schema tab.
- Select the checkbox next to the
DELIVERY_PLATFORMtable. - Click Save changes.
After the DELIVERY_PLATFORM table syncs to your destination, filter or group by publisher_platform = 'instagram' to see Instagram-only performance.
Create a custom report with a publisher_platform breakdown
To see Instagram performance broken down by campaign, ad set, or ad, create a custom report with the publisher_platform breakdown. For more information, see Set up a custom report. The resulting table includes a publisher_platform column with values such as facebook, instagram, and audience_network.
When you use publisher_platform as a breakdown, the Facebook API may not return some conversion metrics. This limitation does not affect other compatible metrics. Your connection syncs all compatible metrics and skips unsupported ones. For more information, see the Facebook documentation on API Breakdowns Limitations.
The publisher_platform and targeting_publisher_platforms columns
These two columns are different:
publisher_platform: Indicates where the ad was delivered. Use this column to analyze performance by platform.targeting_publisher_platforms: Indicates where the ad was targeted to appear. An ad sets can target multiple platforms. As a result, this column may contain both Facebook and Instagram, and is not reliable for filtering performance data.
