Error: User Does Not Have Sufficient Permissions for This Property
Issue
When you create or edit a custom report in your Google Analytics 4 connection, the connection fails with the following error:
Cannot connect to the source system. Depending on the cause, you may need to correct your connection's account credentials, update your connection method, or reauthorize Fivetran. Details: Google API returned an error. Code 403, message: 'User does not have sufficient permissions for this property. To learn more about Property ID, see https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/reporting/data/v1/property-id. Property ID: properties/<Id>'.
Environment
Connector: Google Analytics 4
Resolution
To resolve this issue, make a note of the affected property ID in the error message, then either grant the authorizing Google account access to it or remove it from your connection.
Grant access to the property
The connection's authorizing Google account must have at least the Viewer role for each property you want to sync. Ask a Google Analytics administrator to grant this role for the affected property. For instructions, see the Google Analytics Access and data-restriction management documentation.
To check which accounts and properties the authorizing account can access, log in to the GA4 Query Explorer with the same Google account.
After the administrator updates the permissions, re-authorize the connection:
- In Fivetran, go to your Google Analytics 4 connection page.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Click Edit connection.
- Click Re-Authorize with Google.
- Click Save & Test.
Remove the property from your connection
If you don't want to sync the affected property, remove it from your connection:
- In Fivetran, go to your Google Analytics 4 connection page.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Click Edit connection.
- Under Accounts to sync, find the relevant account, then click Edit.
- Deselect the checkbox next to the affected property. Fivetran marks unsupported properties with a warning symbol.
- Click Apply.
- Click Save & Test.
Cause
This issue occurs when a connection's authenticating Google account doesn't have sufficient permissions for one or more selected properties. This may happen when a Google Analytics administrator changes the access settings or revokes the account's access.
When you select the sync mode Sync Specific Accounts, we retrieve the dimensions and metrics for each selected property. If the authorizing account can't access a property, the Google Analytics Data API returns a 403 error, preventing you from creating or editing custom reports.
