Tableau Setup Guide Lite
Follow our setup guide to connect Tableau to Fivetran.
Prerequisites
To connect Tableau to Fivetran, you need a Tableau Cloud account with Site Administrator role.
Setup instructions
Create personal access token
Log in to your Tableau Cloud account.
Go to the Settings page.
In the Personal Access Tokens (PAT) section, select the Enable personal access tokens option.
Depending on your access requirements, do one of the following:
To enable all users to create PATs, select the All users on this site option.
To limit the access of creating new PATs only to the users that are members of a group, select the Only users in a specified group option and then select a group from the drop-down menu.
Specify the Set expiration period. You can select one of the following options:
- Select the default option - 180 days.
- In the Custom days field, specify a custom value.
Click Save.
Make a note of the PAT name and PAT secret. You will need them to configure Fivetran.
Find subdomain and site name
Find your Tableau subdomain and site name in your Tableau Cloud account URI and make a note of them. For example, if your Tableau Cloud account URI is https://test.online.tableau.com/#/yoursite/home
, your subdomain is test
and your site name is yoursite
.
Finish Fivetran configuration
- In the connector setup form, enter the Destination schema name of your choice.
- Enter the PAT name and PAT secret you created in Step 1.
- Enter the Subdomain you found in Step 2.
- Enter the Site Name you found in Step 2.
- (Hybrid Deployment only) If your destination is configured for Hybrid Deployment, the Hybrid Deployment Agent associated with your destination is pre-selected in the Select an existing agent drop-down menu. To use a different agent, select the agent of your choice, and then select the same agent for your destination.
