Google Search Console Setup Guide
Follow our setup guide to connect Google Search Console to Fivetran.
Prerequisites
To connect Google Search Console to Fivetran, you need:
- A Google Search Console account set up with you as a verified owner of the sites.
- Depending on the authentication method you choose, one of the following:
- OAuth authentication method: Access to your Google Search Console sites with the Full user or Owner role
- Fivetran-managed service account authentication method: Access to your Google Search Console sites with the Owner role, so you can grant access to the Fivetran service account
Setup instructions
Begin Fivetran configuration
In the connection setup form, enter the Destination schema name of your choice.
Choose your Authentication method:
OAuth (recommended): Allows Fivetran to access your Google Search Console account using your Google user account. Click Authorize to allow Fivetran access to your Google Search Console account.
Fivetran-managed service account: Allows Fivetran to access your Google Search Console account using a service account managed by Fivetran.
- Click Copy next to the Service account email field to copy the service account email displayed in the Fivetran connection setup form.
- In a new browser tab, log in to Google Search Console.
- Select the property you want to sync.
- Go to Settings > Users and permissions.
- Click Add user.
- Enter the service account email you copied from the Fivetran connection setup form.
- Set the permission level to Full.
- Save your changes.
- Repeat the steps above for every Google Search Console property you want to sync.
- Return to the Fivetran connection setup form and click Test Fivetran-managed service account access to verify that Fivetran can access your Google Search Console data. Once the test is successful, the remaining configuration fields appear.
Select the Sites sync mode you want to use:
- Select Sync all sites to automatically sync all sites you have access to. New sites added to your account are automatically synced.
- Select Sync specific sites to sync specific sites only. You will need to select at least one site from the SiteUrl list.
(Optional) Add Custom report
If you want to sync a Custom report:
- Click Add custom report.
- Enter your chosen Destination table name. The name must be unique within this connection and must comply with Fivetran's naming conventions.
To disable the sync for a particular Custom report once it is set up, deselect its table in the connection's schema on the Schema tab of the connection details page.
- Select one of the available report types.
- If you select the Search Results report type, select one or more search types.
- Select one or more dimensions.
You must select the
datedimension because the reports are synced by day. Reports without thedatedimension are not supported.- (Optional) If you select the Search Results report type, select one of the available aggregation types.
- (Optional) To filter a custom report by dimension, do the following:
- Click + Add filter.
- From the Filter type drop-down menu, choose whether to include records by selecting Include records where or exclude records by selecting Exclude records where.
- In the Dimension field, select the dimension to filter on.
- In the Operator field, choose the matching condition, Equals or Contains.
- In the Value field, enter the desired value for the dimension to filter on.
- (Optional) You can create and apply several filters, which are joined by logical AND. To add additional filters, repeat the steps for each added filter.
- Click Save to add the custom report.
Repeat the previous 6 steps if you want to add another Custom report.
Finish Fivetran configuration
In the Historical Sync Time Frame drop-down, select how many months' worth of reporting data you'd like to include in your initial sync.
The Google Search Console API only returns reporting data for the last 16 months. We cannot sync older data.
Click Save & Test. Fivetran will take it from here and sync your data from your Google Search Console account.
