PostgreSQL Native Application Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to frequently asked questions about the PostgreSQL native application.
How is the PostgreSQL native app different from Fivetran SaaS?
The PostgreSQL app uses the Hybrid Deployment model to sync your data sources, allowing you to process data securely within your Snowflake environment while benefiting from Fivetran SaaS. With the PostgreSQL app, you can leverage Fivetran’s cloud to orchestrate and configure your data pipeline without any data passing through Fivetran’s cloud. Fivetran collects only essential metadata from your Snowflake environment where the app runs, to assess and display the health of the data pipeline on the dashboard.
Why should I use the PostgreSQL app to sync my PostgreSQL data source?
The PostgreSQL app enables secure loading and replication of PostgreSQL data sources, all managed through Fivetran’s simple and intuitive dashboard. This app allows you to create and maintain a secure data pipeline, with Fivetran having no access to your data, while you still enjoy all the benefits of Fivetran SaaS. You can install and manage the app directly in your Snowflake environment, eliminating the need to host it in an external environment.
What are the limitations of the PostgreSQL app compared to Fivetran's PostgreSQL connector?
The PostgreSQL app has no functional limitations compared to Fivetran's PostgreSQL connector.
How much will the app cost me?
The PostgreSQL app is available for free in the Snowflake Marketplace, and Fivetran will not charge any fees for its use during the Private Preview. You are only responsible for infrastructure costs, including compute pools, warehouse computing, storage, and data transfer fees. For more information, see Snowflake documentation.
Can I use my Snowflake credits to pay for the app?
No, you cannot use your Snowflake credits to pay for this app. You must manage your billing directly on the Fivetran dashboard. However, you can utilize the Snowflake credits for the infrastructure costs in your account. These credits are used as part of the compute pools used for the service. For more information, see Snowflake documentation.
NOTE: During the Private Preview phase, Fivetran charges nothing for using the app. Fees will apply only after the app becomes Generally Available.
How do I install the app?
See our setup instructions to install, configure, and manage the PostgreSQL app.
Do I need an existing Fivetran account to install the app?
No, you do not need an existing Fivetran account to use the app. You can create your Fivetran account while setting up the app.
When will the app be Generally Available (GA)?
A GA date is not yet available. Fivetran and Snowflake are collaborating on several enhancements to the end-to-end user experience and will move to GA once these improvements are complete.
