Error: Runtime Error: RAISE_SHORTDUMP
Issue
Fivetran retrieves metadata and row counts for SAP CDS views, but data extraction fails with the following error:
SAP OData error (attempt 1/3): Runtime Error: 'RAISE_SHORTDUMP'. The OData request processing has been abnormally terminated. If you use SAP S/4HANA Cloud, please create an incident. Otherwise, if "Runtime Error" is not initial, launch ADT feed "Runtime Errors" or transaction ST22 / SM21 (system log analysis) for details and analysis. [RAISE_SHORTDUMP];
Environment
- Connector: SAP OData
- SAP system: SAP S/4HANA (QA environment)
- Data: CDS views
Resolution
To troubleshoot this issue, work with your SAP Basis/ABAP team:
- Find the failed requests in transaction
/IWFND/ERROR_LOG. - Review the corresponding short dump in
ST22orSM21to identify the underlying error. - Check whether the OData service supports server-driven pagination using a next link, such as
__next, with a$skiptoken. If it doesn't, create CDS views or OData services that return smaller datasets. - Review memory usage and request-handling limits. Adjust the relevant SAP settings as needed.
If the issue persists, contact SAP Support with the error logs and short dump details.
Cause
This issue occurs when SAP can't handle a large data request in a single operation, resulting in a kernel-level runtime error (TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED). The lack of built-in pagination or large-response support in the OData service makes the problem more likely to occur.
