SAP licensing considerations
Fivetran's SAP database connectors access SAP data using two methods, each with different licensing requirements:
- NetWeaver-based integration: Connectors such as SAP ERP on HANA and HVA SAP ECC on Oracle with NetWeaver interface with the SAP system through the NetWeaver application layer. This method typically aligns with standard SAP licensing that includes application-layer access.
- Direct database access: Connectors such as HVA SAP ECC on Oracle and HVA SAP ECC on SQL Server extract data directly from the underlying SAP-managed database. This approach may require broader SAP usage rights that permit direct access to underlying application tables.
SAP licensing terms can vary. We recommend reviewing your SAP contract to confirm that your current license supports the access method used by your chosen connector.
Fivetran SAP application connectors
In addition to the SAP database connectors, Fivetran also offers cloud application connectors for several SAP cloud services. These connectors integrate with the SAP public APIs to extract structured business data such as employee records, expense reports, and business transactions.
