Error: Name or Service Not Known

Issue

While setting up a Managed Data Lake Service destination with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), the Storage Blob Delegator setup test fails with the following error:

Name or service not known

Environment

• Destination: Managed Data Lake Service
• Storage provider: Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)

Resolution

To troubleshoot this issue:

1. Verify your storage account name:

   i. In Fivetran, go to your Managed Data Lake Service destination connection page.

   ii. In the top right, select the more options menu.

   iii. Click Edit connection.

   iv. Verify that the Storage Account Name matches your Azure storage account name.

2. If your storage account uses a private endpoint, configure Azure private networking. Then, select the Connect via private networking connection method in the destination setup form.

3. If you connect over the public internet, enable public network access on your storage account. Then, allow Fivetran access through its firewall. For instructions, see the Create storage account step of our setup guide.

Cause

This issue occurs when Fivetran can't resolve the hostname of your storage account's Blob endpoint. This may happen when you enter an incorrect storage account name in the setup form or the account uses a private endpoint without Fivetran private networking enabled.
