Error: AADSTS7000215 Invalid Client Secret Provided
Issue
While setting up a SharePoint connection with Microsoft Entra ID authentication, the Microsoft sign-in pop-up does not appear. Instead, the setup test fails with the following error:
AADSTS7000215: Invalid client secret provided. Ensure the secret being sent in the request is the client secret value, not the client secret ID.
Environment
- Connector: SharePoint
- Access type: Customer-registered app - Client secret
Resolution
To resolve this issue, update the client secret for the Microsoft Entra app registration.
- In Microsoft Entra ID, go to App registrations.
- Select the app registration used for the SharePoint connection.
- Go to Certificates & secrets.
- Create a new client secret.
- Make a note of the client secret Value before leaving the page.
- In Fivetran, go to your SharePoint connection page.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Click Edit connection.
- Enter the client secret Value in the Client Secret field.
- Click Save & Test.
If the setup test still fails, verify that:
- The Tenant ID is correct.
- The Client ID belongs to the same app registration.
- The app has the required Microsoft Graph permissions and admin consent.
- For customer-registered app access, the required SharePoint site permission grant is in place.
If authentication succeeds but you encounter any further issues, validate the Folder share link.
Cause
This issue occurs when Microsoft Entra ID rejects the client secret. This may happen when the secret is invalid, expired, or deleted, or when you provide the secret ID instead of its value.
