Does Changing the SFTP User Root Directory or Configured Base Folder Path Increase MAR?
Question
I changed the root directory for the SFTP user and updated the folder path in my Fivetran connection. Will Fivetran treat the files as new and cause a spike in Monthly Active Rows (MAR)? How can I avoid unnecessary MAR usage?
Environment
Connector: SFTP
Answer
Changing the SFTP user's root directory or the configured folder path may affect MAR usage. To avoid unnecessary MAR spikes:
- If the configured file paths remain the same and the files' last-modified timestamps haven't changed, the connection continues from its existing sync state without reprocessing all files.
- If you have moved files to new directories, ensure their last-modified timestamps haven't changed. If the timestamps have changed, Fivetran treats the files as new or updated, which can cause a MAR spike.
- If you need to sync from a new directory path, consider creating a new SFTP connection for that path. Initial syncs are counted as free MAR, and new connections have 14 days of free usage, though incremental updates outside that period may count toward paid MAR. For more information, see Free MAR.
