Is SAP Router Required When Using SAP Message Server?

Can I configure an SAP ERP on HANA connection without an SAP Router when Use SAP Message Server is enabled? Can I leave the SAP Router field blank?

Answer

When Use SAP Message Server is enabled, the SAP Router field is mandatory and cannot be skipped.

The SAP Message Server uses the SAP Router for routing and name resolution to connect to the appropriate application server instance. You have two options:

• Disable Use SAP Message Server and connect directly using the Application Server Host (ASHOST) and System Number (SYSNR) fields. In this configuration, the SAP Router field is not required.
• If Use SAP Message Server and provide a valid SAP Router string. There is no workaround to bypass this requirement.
