Is SAP Router Required When Using SAP Message Server?
Question
Can I configure an SAP ERP on HANA connection without an SAP Router when Use SAP Message Server is enabled? Can I leave the SAP Router field blank?
Environment
Connector: SAP ERP on HANA
Answer
For Hybrid Deployment connections, the SAP Router field is optional when Use SAP Message Server is enabled. In this configuration, the Use SAP Router toggle is displayed and you can leave it OFF to connect without an SAP Router.
For SaaS Deployment connections, the SAP Router field is mandatory and cannot be skipped when Use SAP Message Server is enabled, because SAP Message Server uses the SAP Router for routing and name resolution to connect to the appropriate application server instance.
If you're on SaaS Deployment, you have two options:
- Disable Use SAP Message Server and connect directly using the Application Server Host (ASHOST) and System Number (SYSNR) fields. In this configuration, the SAP Router field is not required.
- Enable Use SAP Message Server and provide a valid SAP Router string.
