Can I Move Tables Between Connections Without Losing CDC or Re-Syncing Historical Data?
Question
Can I move tables from an existing Fivetran connection to a new connection without interrupting change data capture (CDC) or triggering a historical sync?
Environment
All connectors
Answer
No, Fivetran doesn't automatically preserve cursor state when you move a table from one connection to another. Each connection maintains its own cursor state, so when you enable a table for the first time in a different connection, we treat it as a new table and perform a historical sync.
To request a different starting point for the new connection:
- Create and configure the new connection.
- Back up the historical data synced by the original connection.
- Contact our support team with the new connection details and the date from which it should begin syncing.
Support can help adjust the new connection's cursor to start from the requested point instead of re-syncing all historical data. For more information, see What Is a Cursor Reset?
