Third-Party Orchestration

Use third-party orchestration to trigger transformation runs in other platforms.

Overview

Fivetran integrates with several third-party transformation platforms so you can run sophisticated transformations while coordinating with Fivetran connections. We trigger transformation runs in your chosen platform according to your connection syncs, upstream transformation job completions, or a frequency-based schedule.

Supported platforms

We support the following transformations platforms:

• Coalesce.io* is Coalesce’s hosted transformations product, which includes features like a hybrid development environment and column lineage.
• dbt Cloud is a hosted transformations product, which includes features like a browser-based IDE and data lineage.

Scheduling

Scheduling for third-party orchestration reflects standard transformation scheduling.

Fivetran supports the following schedule types:

• Integrated: Trigger transformation runs based on selected connections' or jobs' schedules.
• Run Frequency: Run transformations on a set schedule, with the ability to specify a specific time of day for once-per-day runs.
• Cron: Use cron notation to run transformations on a customized schedule.
• Smart Syncing: Run transformations on a Run Frequency schedule, but wait for all upstream connections and transformations to finish first.

Limitations

• You can only set up one project per destination. If you want to add an already-selected project to another destination, you must first remove it from the previous destination.
• If you use integrated scheduling, all connections that trigger a Coalesce or dbt Cloud job must be associated with the same destination.
• Connection syncs trigger Coalesce or dbt Cloud runs regardless of if new data lands with a sync.
