External Logs
Learn about the external log services supported by Fivetran.
Overview
You must have an Enterprise or Business Critical plan to connect an external logging service.
In addition to the Fivetran Platform Connector, Fivetran supports several external logging services. You can set up one external logging service of one of the supported types to collect logs for the destination it's connected to (destination level). You can also set up one account-level external logging service of the same or different type to collect logs for all destinations in your account. For example, you can have AWS CloudWatch as your account-level external logging service and Google Cloud Logging as your destination-level external logging service, or vice versa.
See our Fivetran Platform Connector and External Logging Service Comparison documentation to learn more about the differences between the Fivetran Platform Connector and external logging services.
External log setup
To connect an external log service to Fivetran:
- Depending on whether you want to connect the log service at the account or destination level, do one of the following:
- To connect at the account level, click Account Settings > General > External Logging in your Fivetran dashboard.
- To connect at the destination level, choose the destination, to which you want to connect a log service, on the Destinations list.

- Click Connect your logging service.
- Select the service of your choice from the list.
- Follow the instructions for your preferred logging service.
Once you have set up the external logging service, you can manage it from the External Logging tab in the following ways:
- To disable logging, set the Logging enabled toggle to off.
- To edit the external logging service settings, click Edit connection details, enter new values in the relevant fields, and click Save & Test.
- To delete the external logging service connection:
- Click to Permanently delete <service_name> log service.
- Type DELETE in the confirmation dialog.
- Click Delete.
- You can connect one external log service per destination and per account.
- External logging is centralized. All compute and processing for this service runs in the
GCP us-east4 (US)region, regardless of the data processing location configured for your destination. Log events are processed there before being forwarded to your configured external logging destination. The logs are considered system data. They contain service metadata, such as operational events and statuses, and do not include your pipeline data. Due to the architecture, you may need to safelist IP addresses from a region or cloud provider that differs from your selected data processing location:34.150.209.32/32- for production log delivery35.234.176.144/29- for setup test validation (IP range:35.234.176.144-35.234.176.151)
