For the third consecutive year, Fivetran has been named in the “Gartner^® Magic Quadrant™ for Data Integration Tools.”* Fivetran's focus on simplifying and automating data movement resulted in scoring the highest on data movement topology among vendors in this evaluation.

The data integration market continues its strong growth as it transitions away from complex, legacy data management products and towards a fully managed, cloud-based platform that is more automated and reliable. As Gartner notes in its accompanying report, “Market Share Analysis: Data Integration Software, Worldwide, 2021,”** this growth is sustained by a widespread need for hybrid and multi-cloud data integration, along with specific data integration styles like change data capture (CDC). Fivetran’s significant growth in 2021 was the highest among all the data integration software vendors that Gartner tracks for its market share report.

Over the past year, Fivetran grew 141 percent by focusing on supporting more hybrid, enterprise-scale use cases, helping over 4,000 organizations transition from legacy data integration architectures to a modern data stack, resulting in fresh data being used to drive better business outcomes. The acquisition of HVR also offers our customers real-time analytics for very large database applications.

The new standard for data movement

The report notes that the transition to more modern, cloud-native tools has been powered by the rapid rise of cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, Databricks and Google BigQuery. This new market contrasts with the traditional legacy data management market, which is dominated by broad or highly customized ETL feature sets that can offer flexibility with the trade-off of complexity and resource-intensive support.

The modern data movement market is growing faster due to a maniacal focus on simplicity, a strong ecosystem and a commitment to only building feature sets that modern data teams require. Legacy vendors continue to lose market share to more agile, cloud-based solutions.

This market transition in data integration is similar to the business intelligence (BI) market transitions of the past, when Tableau and Qlik disrupted the market by allowing analysts and data teams to interact with data visually, versus complex and feature-rich tools such as BusinessObjects and Hyperion.
